Plan vaccinations with your child’s doctor
Bring the vaccination card to each visit. Your doctor can review the doses already given and explain which vaccines are due under the applicable national programme and any additional recommendations.
Vaccinations across childhood
- At birth: discuss birth-dose vaccinations with the maternity or newborn-care team.
- Infancy: several vaccines require a series of doses. Record each dose and arrange the next visit.
- Toddler and preschool years: review primary-series completion and booster appointments.
- School age and adolescence: ask about age-appropriate boosters and other recommended vaccines, including current HPV programme eligibility.
Use the current official schedule
India’s National Immunisation Schedule and additional individual recommendations are not interchangeable. Use the current Ministry of Health guidance and a clinician’s advice to determine exact vaccines, ages and intervals.

Additional vaccines
Ask whether influenza, hepatitis A, varicella, typhoid or other vaccines are appropriate for your child. Recommendations can depend on age, health conditions, previous doses and travel.
Missed a dose?
Ask a qualified clinician for a catch-up plan. Bring all available records instead of guessing which doses to repeat.
Questions to ask
- Which doses are due, and when is the next appointment?
- Are any doses already documented elsewhere?
- What reactions should we expect, and when should we seek help?
- Are there any precautions related to this child’s medical history?
Vaccine safety
Discuss expected side effects, contraindications and any previous reaction with the vaccinating clinician. Seek urgent help for a severe reaction.
